The Medina County Arts Council

Our Mission

The Medina County Arts Council’s (MCAC) mission is to “Advocate for, Support, and Nurture the Arts in Medina County.”

OUR VISION

The Medina County Arts Council (MCAC) along with our friends and partners is committed to inspire each generation to experience and participate in the arts through outreach and promotions; to enrich the quality of life and celebrate our artistic heritage; to make art accessible to all people throughout Medina County; to advocate for all forms of artistic expression essential to building vibrant, diverse, and inclusive communities; to encourage education, career opportunities, and entrepreneurship in the arts; and to continue sustaining and growing the organization.

WHAT WE DO

The Medina County Arts Council (MCAC) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization who provides Grants to Medina County organizations, schools and communities promoting the arts, and our Scholarship Program awards scholarships to a graduating Medina County senior each year. The primary support for these come from contributions entrusted to us through gifts and annual fundraising events.

The recently launched program, Creative Connection Art Kit is an important component of MCAC’s community outreach. The program provides our most vulnerable Medina County residents, including underserved and at-risk youth, adults, and families, with basic art supplies and project ideas. Each kit includes a packet filled with project ideas and the supplies needed to quickly begin creating.

Each year we honor the art accomplishments of Medina County individuals and organizations through the Service to the Arts Awards. The Medina County Arts Council (MCAC) honors those who have  enriched Medina County with the arts and celebrates these individuals and organizations in our community for their passion, efforts and commitment to the arts. MCAC recognizes artists and organizations for their dedication and hard work towards making Medina County the thriving arts community it is and continues to be.

Since 1984, we’ve produced and promoted the annual July Arts Week Festival and related activities including arts programs for children, and concerts for adults and families.

Since 1995, MCAC has co-sponsored Spirits of the Past, a guided walk through Medina's past featuring our Historic Square in cooperation with The Medina County Historical Society and the Medina County Show Biz Company

We publish ArtsViews, a monthly e-newsletter to over 4,000 subscribers and promote local artists and organizations on Facebook and Instagram along with providing a  Community Arts Calendar and Artists Directory via our website.

OUR HISTORY

Medina County Arts Council, Inc. (MCAC) was formally organized in 1983 through the efforts of the Medina Branch of The American Association of University Women to encourage and support the fine and performing arts in Medina County with financial support from the AAUW Educational Foundation, Westfield Companies, and other local companies and artists. MCAC received non-profit status from the IRS in 1984 and is incorporated in the state of Ohio.

Rapid growth in Medina County has had a major impact on local arts organizations, activities, and artists. The MCAC Board initiated a Strategic Plan developed through consultation from the Ohio Arts Council to “promote and build community excellence through the arts in Medina County.”

The Board of Trustees is composed of local artists, business leaders, and members of the community-at-large to maintain a county-wide arts support and services network. Financial support for MCAC activities is generated from grants, annual donor programs and fundraising drives. Through special memorial contributions in 2002 and 2003, MCAC was able to establish The Medina County Arts Council Endowment Fund under the Medina County Fund of the Akron Community Foundation. Income from this fund continues to grow and will support future capital campaigns and provide sustainability.
