Arts Week a Success!

In spite of the rain, storms, and extreme heat, Medina County Arts Council’s 35th Annual Arts Week was another success. Thank you to our participants, volunteers and guests for celebrating the Arts in Medina County. We welcome comments or suggestions to help us with planning next year’s Arts Week. Email your suggestions to Jill Morton, Arts Week Coordinator.

The events kicked off with two arts classes for children.  In collaboration with the Medina District Library, artist Jim Gill taught a cartooning and drawing class for 25 young artists. Annette Carruthers taught sculpting skills using polymer clay with 12 children attending.

At noon each day the Medina’s Public Square was filled with special activities and presentations geared to children including chalk art, sing-a-long, interactive dance, and vocal presentations.

The evening performances on Medina’s square included local musicians Grady Miller, John Husbands, Jim Gill, and Parsons and Polk.  We are so fortunate to have these talented musicians in our community.

Other special programs during Arts Week included a program from the Celtic Eagles Band at Lodi Library and Didgeridoo Down Under at the Brunswick Library.  Did you see or hear the Hip Hop class at the Medina library?  The children learning to dance were a big hit with the library visitors or maybe it was the loud music!

The library held a Writer’s Conference on the Saturday of arts week.  The Arts Council served lunch to the writers in attendance.  Thank you to the Medina UCC church for allowing us to use their fellowship hall.

Thank you to Amy and Emily Winnicki for planning the Medina Public Square program and Aimee Adams and Medina County District Library for their support. And, thank you to Wadsworth and Sharon Center for participating in Arts Week!
