30th Annual Arts Week Festival!

The Medina County Arts Council’s 30th Annual Arts Week is July 14 to July 20 and is once again packed with fun entertainment and activities for all ages. We encourage you to bring a picnic and blanket or lawn chairs to enjoy the outdoor entertainment. And all events are free!

Sunday, July 14

WADSWORTH – Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach (ORMACO) continues its free Wadsworth Library concert series with Sound the Horn! A Demonstration of French Horn Playing Techniques. Akron-based Kevin Walters will present well-known French horn repertoire, from Mozart to Strauss, demonstrating a variety of playing techniques at the Wadsworth Library at 2 pm.

Monday, July 15

MEDINA – We kick off the week’s activities with Sidewalk Chalk Art on Medina’s Public Square Gazebo at noon. Adam Michel who is an art teacher at Cloverleaf Middle and High Schools will teach blending techniques. Kids can watch or join in, sharing their chalk creations. Monday evening is a free concert at the Gazebo with Grady Miller at 7:30 pm. Grady Miller is an Americana and Blues duo from Akron. Cathy and Michael Grady are instructors at Woodsy’s in Medina and together they teach 96 students per week. Their unique blend of vocals with fiddle and guitar makes for an eclectic mix of genres. Tuesday, July 16

MEDINANick Elkevizth is an instrumental guru and plays violin, lap steel guitar, mandolin and more along with writing his own songs! Nick will be performing on Medina Square at noon. The evening concert on the square will feature local artist John Husbands at 7:30 pm. John’s easy renditions of popular folk and rock songs by artists like John Denver, Crosby, Stills and Nash, and Billy Joel are always crowd pleasers.

Medina County District Library will be hosting a Hip-Hop Workshop Tuesday, July 16 through Thursday, July 18 for grades 3-5 at 3 pm each day. Learn street dance styles with Krista Juderjahn from Ignite Dance Studio.

LODI – Discover the history and music of Scotland with the Celtic Eagles Pipe Band at Lodi Library at 1:30 pm. Please be sure to register at www.mcdl.info.

Wednesday, July 17

MEDINAKelly Parks, owner/director of Medina Centre for Dance Art will be assisting children with Interactive Dance Fun on Medina’s Square at noon. She has been training dancers for over 31 years with her mission of enriching the lives of children and adults through dance. Performing the evening concert at 7:30 pm is Jim Gill, an acoustic folk artist with many talents who has been called a singer/songwriter/guitar player/storyteller extraordinaire! He’s family friendly mixed with a wee bit of joking! You will certainly be entertained!

SHARON CENTER – Come to the Sharon Center Gazebo at 7 pm for a lively performance by Rolando Pizano and his five-piece band. They will be playing Latin and Caribbean music while kids “make & take” percussion instruments.

Thursday, July 18

MEDINA – The students of Kimberly States, KS Vocal Studio, will perform at noon at Medina’s Public Square. Kimberly provides private voice lessons for the musically gifted children and adults in Medina. She will be bringing 12 students to perform and you will be amazed at how talented they are. The popular local duo, Parsons & Polk, will perform the evening concert at the Gazebo at 7:30 pm. Dan and Dave have been playing and singing since they were kids and first picked up a guitar. Their music is a familiar blend of 70’s – Neil Diamond, James Taylor, Jimmy Buffet. Perfect for enjoying on a summer evening.

Friday, July 19

MEDINA – Music students who participate in Melinda Kline’s class at Woodsy’s Music will perform a musical review on Medina’s Public Square at noon. Friday evenings on the square always features a performance by Medina Community Band starting at 8:30 pm. This community tradition of over 150 years is at the heart of what Medina is all about. Be sure to catch at least one of their summer concerts – they don’t disappoint.

BRUNSWICKDidgeridoo Down Under brings their unique instruments to a performance at Brunswick Library at 10 am. The group offers the most exciting Australia-themed shows, concerts and workshops in the U.S. The show is a unique fusion of music, culture, science, comedy, character building, anti-bullying, environmentalism and audience participation. The didgeridoo is a wind instrument developed by Indigenous Australians of northern Australia potentially within the last 1,500 years and still in widespread use today both in Australia and around the world. It is sometimes described as a natural wooden trumpet or "drone pipe.” The performance is active, vibrant, and engaging. All ages are welcome.

Saturday, July 20

MEDINA – Medina County District Library hosts a Writers Conference, 9 am to 4:30 pm. There will be a full day of workshops, a critique partner meet & greet, and a book giveaway! Learn how to take writing from a hobby to a career, craft opening pages that get the attention of agents, self-publish with confidence, and effectively market yourself as an author. Also get a peek into the world of ghost writing. Lunch will be provided. Please be sure to register at www.mcdl.info.

Jazz Under the Stars: Neo (North East Ohio) Dixie
Saturday, July 6, 2019 7-9 pm

Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach (ORMACO) presents Jazz under the Stars free summer concert in Medina’s Uptown Park. Join saxophonist Tom Lempner, trombonist Jimmy Redmond, tuba player Drew Kreiger and percussionist Darren Allen as they bring you these merry melodies and add a “new” (NEO) twist to some Dixieland treats. Friday, July 19 – George Rosin, featured trombone soloist. Featured works by Suppé, Guilmant, Khachaturian, Saint-Saëns, Fillmore, and Sousa.
Friday, July 26 – The final season concert will feature Daniel Doty, tenor vocal soloist.
